Robot Dreams was very cute. Depicts two close friends growing apart that end up having to move on and find happiness elsewhere, but not because they’ve forgotten their time together. It doesn’t actually take much to remember or wish to go back, they simply had to adapt in order to live, grow, and evolve.
It’s very funny in parts (the snowman turning colors as he drinks flavored slushies was my favorite gag) and also very sad (the dreams and nightmares both Dog and Robot have in the hopes of reuniting despite being physically unable to even see how the other is doing can be soul-crushing). And how can you not love a movie that uses Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” as a leitmotif?
I’m sure it will play really well for New Yorkers too as it seems to be a treasure trove of Easter-egged locales from around the city to remind you of your own found, lost, and reclaimed loves.
