DESIGN: Ghostbusters — I Am Vinz

If I made a Ghostbusters shirt for The Gatekeeper, I couldn’t very well stop without doing another for The Keymaster. Unfortunately, when it comes to Rick Moranis‘ Louis Tully, there isn’t really a stand-out line besides his famous parroting of Egon’s, “Yes, have some”. However, to keep in tune with the previous design, I decided on “I am Vinz, Vinz Clortho”. It’s the beginning of a longer list of monikers that he speaks at a horse upon roaming the streets of NYC while possessed. Using the same font and effect…

DESIGN: Ghostbusters — There Is No Dana, Only Zuul

Branching out from television, I decided to jump into the world of pop culture films for my next t-shirt design. And there isn’t much more beloved than 1984’s Ghostbusters for which to work off. Thinking about iconic quotes, the guttural line from Sigourney Weaver‘s Dana Barrett after being possessed, “There is no Dana, only Zuul” kept popping into my head. Focusing on her red, silky gown, I set out to go minimal by creating a clean silhouette to go against the text in a bold sans serif font. After playing…

REVIEW: ParaNorman [2012]

“He’s probably up there fiddling with his Wee-Jah or his orbs …” LAIKA, Inc., the little studio with big dreams in Oregon is officially more than a flash in the pan success story that brought to life a critically acclaimed feature film before scaling back to commercials and music videos. Using a beacon in the stop-motion animation world like Henry Selick to adapt and direct Coraline showed the vision to take chances on darker material than most may want to expose their children to and they were rewarded for the…

REVIEW: The Bourne Legacy [2012]

“We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary” There was bound to be fallout after Jason Bourne ran amok avenging his girlfriend’s death and shutting down the government agencies that turned him into a cold-blooded killer. With his amnesia-induced morality’s push towards righteousness and its ability to turn executives like Pam Landy (Joan Allen) sympathetic to his plight, fixers behind the scenes of this CIA blunder realized public knowledge of Operations Treadstone and Blackbriar could risk exposing the myriad other similar programs being performed by high-level security officials doing their best…

DESIGN: Upper 90 magazine

With the appeal of WNY’s professional soccer club FC Buffalo still rising—as well as the WNY Flash and a number of successful collegiate teams—it was only a matter of time before local entrepreneur and journalist Nick Mendola looked for a new outlet to increase exposure even more. Soccer has always been huge around the world and Buffalo, NY looks to follow suit with or without the rest of the country. From there came the idea for a quarterly magazine spanning youth leagues all the way to the pros and the…

REVIEW: Girl Model [2012]

“We’ll be waiting for her to come back. That’s it.” Documentaries find success through compelling stories. Whether a salacious expose on an industry many looking in don’t understand or a stirring rags-to-riches tale depicting a young girl’s rise to fame and fortune—intrigue is the name of the game. Many times directors aren’t even sure what their film will be until everything plays out and the editing process begins. For David Redmon and Ashley Sabin, the simple fact their Girl Model delves into the scary reality of thirteen-year old girls being…
